Clinical Medical Administrative Assistant

Blinn’s Clinical Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) Program is a non-credit, online program that prepares students for a career in healthcare administration. The program follows nationally recognized training, assessment, and certification standards set by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

CMAs play a vital role in healthcare offices by scheduling appointments, creating and maintaining medical records, handling communication between patients and healthcare providers, and managing bookkeeping tasks. Before enrolling in the Clinical Medical Administrative Assistant Program, students must attend a healthcare information session.

Clinical Medical Administrative Assistant students are eligible to apply for Duddlesten Foundation scholarships while funds remain available.

Program FAQ

Clinical medical administrative assistants are medical support professionals who perform office operations, operate equipment, handle administrative procedures, that require human relations in a healthcare facility.  Clinical medical administrative assistants perform a variety of job duties, including scheduling appointments, medical records creation and maintenance, interpersonal communications, bookkeeping tasks that include coding, billing, and third-party reimbursement.

The Clinical Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) Program is a non-credit training program designed to prepare students for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) certification. It is less intensive than the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Program and focuses on preparing students for front desk and administrative roles in healthcare settings.

In contrast, the Health Information Technology (HIT) Program is a for-credit certificate and degree program that includes more in-depth training in medical billing and coding. While the CMAA program covers some basic billing and coding concepts, it is intended for students seeking roles such as scheduling coordinators, receptionists, and administrative assistants in doctor’s offices, clinics, and hospitals.

Completing this program does not automatically grant certification. However, the program includes a voucher for students to schedule and take the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) certification exam. Upon successfully passing the exam, students will earn their CMAA credential.

This program is offered 100% online with no required lab component.
